In a shock of a sort, YS Vijayamma trust run by Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and family has been banned by the Central government. Filing the case under section 14 of FCRA, the Centre cancelled the registration of the trust for violating Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 norms and for involving n misusing foreign funds for illegal, conversion & banned activities.
Besides, YS Vijayamma trust, ninety NGOs in Telangana and 168 in Andhra Pradesh are found to be violating foreign funding laws. In Andhra Pradesh, Rural Education and Development Society, Rayapati Charitable Trust, Philadelphia Zion Ministries and Aruna Mahila Mandali are the NGOs that joined the Vijayamma’s trust whose registration has been cancelled.
In its statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs said that they have cancelled the registrations of the mentioned NGOs after the latter failed to file mandatory annual returns for the year 2017-18, even after the extended date of March 31, 2019. Among the organisations which fell under the ban bandwagon, most of them are the churches which get funds from overseas.
