In an answer to the insecurities raised over the justice served to the rape victims followed by the brutal rape and murder of Disha, Andhra Pradesh government cleared the A.P. Disha Bill, 2019 (A.P. Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2019) in December. However, the Centre on Tuesday gave a shock of sorts to the Jagan-led government sending back the bill quoting technical errors in 7th schedule. According to the sources, the authorities at the PMO sent back the bill instructing the state government to rectify the entries in 7th schedule.
As per the process, the bill which was cleared in the state assembly was sent to the centre for the approval after which it will reach to the President to come into force. With the centre sending back the bill, the process would again come to the start to make all suggested changes. CMO sources stated that the officials were already into the task of rectifying the bill under the guidance of the senior legal team. On the other hand, the state government has started all the necessary mandates for the Disha bill. News has it that the government is all set to start Disha police stations and one-stop centres across the state.
