Koonaseema region continued to remain under high tensions from last 12 hours with the state BJP unit calling for ‘Chalo Amalapuram’ on Friday-in protest against the burning of the 62-year-old chariot of Antarvedi Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple.
Tensions prevailed high with the police denying permission for the protests and issuing warnings of strict action against those who violate the orders. While all the main leaders like BJP state president Somu Veerraju, former president Kanna Lakshmi Narayana were forcibly placed in house arrest, the whereabouts of state vice president Vishnu Vardhan Reddy and MLC PV Madhav are raising tension in party cadre.
Many of the party cadres were reportedly detained while followers of Vishnu Vardhan Reddy alleged that there is no proper information over where the arrested leaders are. It was learnt that Vishnu Vardhan was arrested at around 11 PM on Thursday and was shifted to many police stations in the next few hours.
Meanwhile, DGP announced that Police Act 30 and Section 144 were enforced in Amalapuram and urged everyone to cooperate in maintaining peace in the city. All the shops and business establishments remained close observing the bandh in the view of the ‘Chalo Amalapuram’ call.
