Things weren’t going quite smoothly between Chief Minister KCR and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for more than a month. KCR asked Modi what would be the meaning of minimum support price if the center fails to collect all the grain harvested by the farmer. Discussing the grievances of the farmer, he wrote a letter to Modi regarding the procurement of grain. He said that if the consumption of grains in the state isn’t fully accomplished, there would be chances of witnessing a food crisis in the future. He demanded a uniform grain procurement system across the country and that the impact on the farming sector would be severe if the Center did not fully procure the ripe grain.
KCR wants a special law for the national food grain procurement policy. He clarified that all the paddy and wheat grown must be collected in Telangana just the way it is done in states like Punjab and Haryana. In the letter, KCR asked the Prime Minister to arrange a meeting with the Chief Ministers of all the states and agricultural experts.
He explained that with the measures taken by the Telangana government, the yield of grain has increased significantly. He said his government was also promoting other crops for crop diversity. KCR wants the center to buy all the crops without any restrictions.
KCR said that suicides and migration of farmers in the state have come down significantly with the increase in agricultural exports. He demanded the Center buy all the remaining grain that is more than what is required as the state PDS requirements as per the agreement. Further in his letter, he reminded the center that this policy is not been followed for the last two years.
