In an official statement, China health authorities on Monday confirmed that the death toll from the coronavirus infected has jumped to 80. With more than 2,500 people affected being treated at various hospitals in isolated units, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organization’s director-general announced that he will be travelling to China along with a special team, to meet with government and health officials over the outbreak. The visit took prominence in the wake of the piled-up pressures on WHO with demands to declare the dangerous respiratory disease a global health emergency. On the other hand, the virus has reportedly spread to at least 11 other countries and regions cases continue to be discovered in countries around the world, including the US, Canada, Australia and France.
China’s cabinet on Monday announced it will extend the Lunar New Year holidays to February 2, to strengthen the prevention and control of the new coronavirus. Symptoms of the coronavirus resemble pneumonia and include difficulty breathing, fever and lesions on the lungs, which are revealed through chest X-rays, according to the CDC. Other symptoms mirror the flu and include a runny nose, headaches, coughing, a sore throat and fever, according to the CDC.
