Days after the death of the Chinese doctor Li Wenliang, the first doctor to have sent a message to fellow medics warning of a virus he thought looked like Sars another such mysterious death has shocked the country. Recently, the local media is rife with reports that a 34-year-old lawyer who started vlogging about the ground realities in China over the viral outbreak went missing. The lawyer has recently published a vlog which recorded the overwhelming Chinese hospitals questioning the inefficiency of the government over handling the issue.
The lawyer’s family members have reportedly filed a complaint about his mysterious missing while the local media speculated the government’s hand in the case. It is to the known knowledge that a number of articles from the renowned magazines reported the iron hand control of the government of downplaying the severity of the virus.
Meanwhile, the Chinese authorities have detained a prominent activist and legal scholar Xu Zhiyong, who issued a blistering attack on president Xi Jinping for mishandling the coronavirus crisis. After two months of alleged house arrest, Xu was detained for raising the voice against the Chinese authorities and encouraging his followers to revolt against the government through social media. On this note, support started pouring in for Xu, while social media flooded with messages condemning his arrest.
