In a heart-rending post shared by Ilitija Mufti, the daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, the former shared the way the mother-daughter duo communicated during the detention for the past six months. “Letter folded into a tiny square, rolled into a chapatti, smuggled in a lunch box,” she wrote describing how her mother sent her a secret message through a tiffin box. Iltija Mufti, who has been operating her mother’s Twitter handle since August last year also described how the people of Kashmir were being deprived of fundamental rights and have suffered grave economic and psychological tribulations.
It is to the known knowledge that Mehbooba Mufti has been under preventive custody since August 5, when Centre abrogated Article 370 stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its statehood and dividing the state in two Union Territories. On this note, she was barred from communicating with any of the family members upon which, Mufti happed to smuggle small notes for her daughter from detention through Chapatti. Mehbooba Mufti’s note for Iltija warned her against using her Twitter profile on her behalf. “In case someone else does it, they will be booked on charges of impersonation. Love you and miss you a lot,” read the note.
Sharing how she sent back her reply Iltija said, “My grandmother found an ingenious solution. The letter I wrote was folded into a tiny square and carefully sealed, rolled and locked inside the middle of a chapatti.” This post has left the twitterities with mixed emotions while a few hit back the post saying it be karma. While Ms Mufti will continue to be held at the government house, Omar Abdullah will remain in custody at Hari Niwas, a state guest house.
