Amidst a roll of politicians and public representatives testing positive to the dreadful corona, Veteran Congress Telangana Congress leader and former six-term Lok Sabha and two-time Rajya Sabha member Nandi Yellaiah died of coronavirus at a hospital on Saturday.
As per the reports, Yellaiah(78) was admitted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences on July 29 and was tested positive to the coronavirus. He was learnt to succumb to the viral infection while undergoing treatment. Nandi Yellaiah survived with two daughters and two sons.
Condolences poured in for the Dalit leader who paled a crucial role in the first phase of Telangana agitation in 1969 and was lauded as “Dalitha Bandhavudu”. He rose to an influential leader from the lowest cadre as a party worker and later corporator of the municipal corporation in Hyderabad. He later served as Member of Parliament Lok Sabha for six-term, two-time Rajya Sabha Member, MLA two terms and MLC.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family of the departed leader. Telangana Congress president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, AICC general secretary in-charge of Telangana RC Khuntia and TRS ministers and Congress leaders conveyed their condolences to Yellaiah’s family.
