Besides promising it would bear the costs of railway tickets of needy migrant labourers who are heading home, main opposition Congress and the main supremos Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were seen playing a crucial role standing for the migrants. Levelling up, Congress cadre on Tuesday announced that Congress president Sonia Gandhi will chair an opposition meeting over the migrants’ plight.
While details are still awaited, the meeting which would be held via video conference is speculated to be participated by leaders of 15 political parties in the country including Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Stalin, Hemant Soren, Sharad Pawar. This move came in the wake of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hitting the streets and was seen interacting with the migrant workers.
The main agenda of the Maha Opposition meet would be addressing the government’s unbiased approach towards crores of migrant labourers who have been flocking to their villages. Though Centre on Sunday announced an online National Migrant Information System (NMIS) to track the movement of stranded labourers, it so far didn’t meet the need of the migrants. The situation indeed worsened post the government’s decision to extend the lockdown till May 31st.
Meanwhile, ruling BJP’s leaders are all into hiding back the Opposition’s accusations. It is to the known knowledge that Finance Minister Sitharaman in a recent press meet panned Rahul Gandhi’s hitting roads as ‘dramebaazi’. As the participation of Telugu Chief Minister’s is yet to be known, the political circles are rife with speculations that Jagan is more likely to skip the meeting while KCR is keen to be participating.
