The situation in front of the Lakdikapool’s DGP office was quite tense today. The applicants for the Constable jobs were demanding an increase in the two-year age limit for the positions. They carried out protests attempting to surround the DGP’s office. However, the police blocked them and let them protest on the road.
At one point there was a physical conflict between the unemployed and the police. There was a huge traffic jam in the area due to the unrest on the road. Candidates were outraged that the government had delayed the notification by 2020 by two years and made them lose the opportunity to even apply for the jobs.
The age limit for constable posts in the Fire and Prisons Department has been reduced from 35 years to 30 years. The police arrested the protesters and rushed to the Goshamahal Police Grounds.
The government has recently issued a notification for the recruitment of 16,614 police personnel. Of these, 16,027 were constable posts and 587 were SI posts. The application process for the post will start on May 2 and end on May 20. However, the unemployed are demanding that the maximum age limit be raised in the recruitment process. As part of that, this protest was initiated at the DGP’s office.
