While the unprecedented third wave on one side and the plummeting air quality levels, gusty winds on the other side continued to batter the national capital New Delhi, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is mulling to call for another lockdown.
With the cases steadily raising from the past eight months, the fatality rate turned out to be another concern in Delhi challenging the state government.
In the wake of which, Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has sent a proposal to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to roll back its decision to allow the gathering of 200 people in marriage ceremonies and restricted the number to 50 now.
What exactly is happening in Delhi..?
The count is likely to be misleading since the weekend and two festivals (Diwali and Bhai Dooj) led to fewer tests. As per the recent study conducted by a private organisation, it was revealed that people were not wearing masks or following social distancing at many markets, which led to a spurt in infections.
Positivity rate in Delhi has consistently been above 11 per cent for the past two weeks –– crossing 15 per cent on some days which had fallen to 6 per cent in September.
Market places in Delhi, on the hand, turned out to be the new hot spots with over 225 shopkeepers tested across Tilak Nagar, Raghubir Nagar and Jail Road markets, 41 tested positive last week.
Amidst which, Delhi’s health minister Satyendra Jain has denied any chances of imposing fresh lockdown restrictions in the Capital owing to the spurt in the cases.
