Amid the rising concerns over the widespread novel Coronavirus, there is no sector or industry that was left unaffected. While many of the states announced the shutdowns with travel restricts, the viral outbreak has directly affected airline, railways and bus services. According to the reports, the above mentioned three services have been recording all-time lowest revenues forcing the authorities to cancel the services.
Owing to low occupancy amid coronavirus scare, the Indian Railways on Thursday announced that they have cancelled as many as 168 trains. This move came hours after the Indian Railways has decided to withdrawn curtains and blankets from the AC coaches to curb the spread of viral infection. IRCTC also released an issue urging the passengers to carry their own blankets.
With the number of positive cases increasing to 169 by Thursday, Deepak Kumar, the Northern Railway spokesperson stated that the temporary measure is taken in order to regulate unnecessary crowding at stations where chances of spread of disease are more. Railway sources confirmed that the sector registered 30 per cent losses. To compensate, the authorities have reportedly instructed the railway managers to raise platform ticket prices to Rs 50.
