While the whole world pinned its hopes on corona vaccine, the recent bulletin from Brazilian health authority came as a thunderbolt to the community. A 28-year-old volunteer in Brazil’s clinical trials developed by AstraZeneca AZN.L and Oxford University has died on Wednesday.
Stating that they have ordered an investigation into the matter, the Federal University of Sao Paulo and Brazilian health authority refused to provide any more details given the confidentiality of the volunteers involved in the trials. Meanwhile, Oxford University which has been a part of trails came to a conclusion that there have been no concerns and has recommended the authorities to continue the clinical trials.
In yet another twist, A person familiar with the matter has said that the volunteer, who died during the clinical trials of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, had not received the vaccine shot. The source reportedly confronted that the deceased volunteer had received a placebo and not AstraZeneca’s vaccine shot.
So far 8,000 of the planned 10,000 volunteers in the trial have been recruited and given the first dose in six cities in Brazil and many have already received the second shot, reportedly. While the pharma giant AstraZeneca’s shares turned negative and were down 1.7% followed by the death, the regulator stated that testing of the vaccine would continue
