IPL 2020 has been the most speculated sport event amidst the corona chaos. However, things started clearing out as the IPL Governing Council reportedly freezes September 19 as the launch date. While all the franchises reached the United Arab Emirates (UAE), venue for the most awaited event, seems like the corona continued to haunt the contingent.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the governing body for cricket in India on Saturday dropped a bombshell hinting a hold on the tournament schedule. Through an official release, BCCI informed that a total of 13 people have tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in UAE for the IPL 2020.
The confirmation from BCCI came right on the heels of a number of CSK team members testing positive for coronavirus in the span of two days. In a coincidence, senior CSK cricketer and former India all-rounder Suresh Raina has had to return home while the reason remained unknown.
Further, it was informed that Raina would not take any further part in this season’s tournament which came as a disappointment to many cricket fans.
While sources claimed that there is no immediate threat to the launch date of the event, it was learnt that the schedule might have major tweaks owing to the health and safety protocols after 13 members tested positive.
As a part of the protocol, the Chennai-based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise which was scheduled to start training from Friday has deferred it until September 1.
