In a decision which came in compliance with a number of state government’s lockdown orders, Ola and Uber India, the two leading online cab aggregator announced that they would shut operations across 35 states. In a decision which came as a shock to thousands of cab and auto-rickshaw drivers who will remain unemployed, the app services which offer ride-sharing service announced the suspension until further notice as it steps up efforts to help curb the spread of Covid-19.
“The temporary suspension of Ola Share services is an attempt to encourage social distancing for all cases of essential travel for citizens,” stated Ola Cabs. Ola and its rival Uber has already announced that they have cancelled the cab sharing and pool options, will continue to encourage the citizen to limit travel only for essential emergency needs as per the Government’s directive.
Uber has sent a roll of mails and messages to all its riders over the same urging them to stay home. Meanwhile, the death toll in the country reached to 10 with almost 500 confirmed positive cases across the country.
