With hiking death toll which reached to 25 people on Friday, the Coronavirus outbreak has now become the threat to China forcing China into emergency with 830 infected so far. The SARS-like pathogen which is believed to have begun spreading to humans from seafood and fish meat market in Wuhan later spread to five other parts of the world. Hours after Centre for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) confirmed the first case of deadly Coronavirus infected person in Washington, rumours that two of the Indians who recently returned from China were suffering from an infection probably Coronovirus is shaking the grounds of the country which has more scope for the spread.
According to the sources, two persons who returned from China were kept under medical observation for all necessary examinations which triggered rumours. The two China returned have been suffering from mild cough and exhibiting cold-related symptoms which created a panic in the officials who immediately shifted them to observation. While the hospital staff stated that more details about those kept under surveillance were awaited, Dr Padmaja Keskar, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC)’s executive health officer on Friday said that they have created an isolation ward at Kasturba Hospital in Chinchpokali to treat the effected if any.
“All private doctors in the city have been asked to alert us (the BMC) if they observe symptoms of the coronavirus in anyone who has returned from China,” she said. Airports around the world have stepped up monitoring, checking passengers from China for signs of illness in hopes of containing the virus during the busy Lunar New Year travel season. India began screening of passengers on January 17, close to 12,000 passengers have been screened. The MEA has also been requested to disseminate travel advisory to Indian Embassies in China and adjoining countries. The ministry also stated that the National Institute of Virology, Pune, is all set to test samples of novel coronavirus (nCoV) on a priority basis. The civil aviation ministry was instructed to carry out thermal screening of passengers at the international airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Cochin.
