Breaking its own highest single-day records, India on Saturday registered alarming 57,000 new coronavirus cases across the states. In the biggest daily jump so far, India recorded 57,117 positive cases and 764 deaths in the last 24 hours.
According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, the total caseload now stands at 16,95,988, including 5,65,103 active cases, 10,94,374 cured or discharged. With 764 new fatalities in the last 24 hours, total deaths so far touched 36,511.
Besides Maharastra, Tamil Nadu and Delhi which continued to top the table of most effected states, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka kept registering sharp spike in cases from the past few days. Despite which the state government’s refused to re-impose a complete lockdown.
On the global front, over 17.5 million people (17,531,059) have been infected with the novel coronavirus, with 678,695 deaths so far. The United Nations remained the worst-hit nations followed by Brazil and then India.
