In an official statement issued by the ministry of health and family welfare, India on Thursday reported its first positive case of Coronavirus. The patient was reportedly a student of the Wuhan University who recently reached to home town in Kerala. The reports stated that the patient is stable and is being treated in isolation at a hospital. “We were waiting for the test results of six samples and we received the result of five which were negative,” said the hospital sources.
On this note, Health Minister K.K. Shailaja has called for an emergency meeting of top health officials followed by a press meet to address the issue. According to the sources from the local media, around 800 people who recently visited China were kept under observation while 10 were shifted to the hospital in an isolated ward for better care.
The Indian government has already announced that it is well prepared to handle any outbreak in the country. While sensitisation programs at ground level in all the airports were held, all the hospitals were given instructions to develop isolation wards and to keep a dedicated ambulance available. The information has it that the Emergency Committee on the novel coronavirus under the International Health Regulations will be reconvened by the World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Thursday.
