The three-week lockdown in the wake of the exponentially spreading Coronavirus has become a bane for millions of migrant daily wage labourers. With no transport facilities available, the migrant workers waited for private buses along a highway with their families as they return to their villages.
During which, an eight-month pregnant woman along with her husband grabbed media’s attention. Reportedly, the woman and her husband have already walked over 100 km on their way home without food. The couple were spotted at Meerut’s Sohrab gate bus stand on Saturday who were later offered ambulance service to cover the rest of their journey from Saharanpur to Bulandshahr.
Husband, Vakil who used to work as daily labour at a local factory was ousted out while all the factories remained shut with the Prime Minister announcing lockdown. “Factory owner refused to give us any money to reach our village,” he said. Though Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments are arranged relief measures, they didn’t come to the rescue of the millions of migrant trying to reach their hometown.
