Centres for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)on Tuesday confirmed the first case of deadly SARS-like Coronavirus infected person in Washington. The mysterious respiratory infection which has been shaking the grounds of China which took almost nine lives and more than 440 cases reported across major cities in China has now stuck the US also. A man in his mid-30s who recently returned from a trip to central China has been diagnosed with the virus which reportedly has no cure. The resident of Snohomish County returned from Wuhan on January 15, two days before passenger screening was instituted at three major airports in the United States, but he had no symptoms at the time.
However, lab testing on Monday confirmed he had the virus. In a statement, Dr Nancy Messonnier of the CDC said that the patient was doing stable and is isolated posing little risk to the staff or the general public. Speaking to the media, Gov. Jay Inslee confirmed the news assuring that the overall risk to the American public remained low. WHO convened an Emergency Committee to explore whether the virus constitutes a public health emergency after which has alerted all the countries to take necessary measures. Airports around the world have stepped up monitoring, checking passengers from China for signs of illness in hopes of containing the virus during the busy Lunar New Year travel season.
