Panic continued to gloom India with the country registering almost one lakh cases on Friday for the second consecutive day in a row.
According to the latest reports from the union health ministry, the Indian states and union territories in the last 24 hours logged 96,551 new Covid cases, the highest single-day spike so far. Taking the total caseload of the country to 45,62,415, India is now the second worst-hit country in the world, beating Mexico.
On the other hand, 1,209 new casualties recorded over the past 24 hours took the death toll to 76,271. Among the 45 lakh confirmed cases, India now has 9,43,480 active coronavirus cases and 35,42,663 recovered or discharged cases. The country now has a recovery rate of 77.65%.
A total of 5,40,97,975 samples tested up to 10th September 2020. Of these, 11,63,542 samples were tested on Thursday alone, stated Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Meanwhile, Telangana logged 2.426 new cases on Friday while the total caseload is now at 1,52,602. 13 patients succumbed to the deadly viral infection from Thursday morning taking the total toll to 940.
Andhra Pradesh, the other hand, continued to stay in the top three worst-hit states in the country. The Covid-19 tally increased to 5.37 lakh in AP with the addition of 10,175 cases in 24 hours ending 9 am on Thursday.
