Amid the raising Corona cases in the city, a top Mumbai official on Tuesday hinted upon yet another lockdown. Referring to numerous people travelling in trains and buses without masks, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Kishori Pednekar stated that lockdown may be reimposed in the city if people continue to flout basic COVID-19 rules.
“People must take precautions or else we’d head towards another lockdown. Whether a lockdown will be implemented again is in the hands of people.” Kishori Pednekar said. The announcement came a day after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that the Maharashtra government would take strict action if COVID-19 cases continue to rise.
It can be noted that local trains, considered as Mumbai’s lifeline, opened for the general public from February 1, for the first time in several months. After which the state has been registering a sudden surge in Corona cases while on February 14th alone Maharashtra recorded more than 4,000 fresh infections for the first time in nearly 40 days.
