Calling for quick and decisive steps to contain the second wave of COVID-19 in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his virtual meeting with chief ministers on Wednesday cautioned the state governments against vaccine wastage.
Turning furious over the state governments of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh which contributed to almost 10 per cent of vaccine wastage in the country. “Monitoring must be done every evening and pro-active people should be contacted so that there’s no wastage,” stressed the PM in the virtual meeting.
“This is wastage of a person’s right and it is not good. States should work on targeting zero wastage and it will improve the condition and it will lead to a good result,” he further added.
PM also stated that the doses which were received earlier should be given to the beneficiaries first, as the shelf life of the vaccine is limited. The health ministry, during the press briefing, noted that the country has so far administered a total of 3.51 crore vaccine doses.
