Tensions ran high in India with Gujarat’s health department having confirmed one more case of Omicron variant which takes up the total tally of Omicron cases to three. While the government of India has intensified the airport checkups, the count is increasing with each passing day.
COVID which spread its wings in two alarming waves, the discovery of a new and stronger variant Omicron is ringing the alarm over the third wave in the country. This variant, which originated in South Africa, has gradually spread to all countries that announced complete lockdown.
While the World Health Organisation(WHO) in an official statement announced that it was spread to 30 countries on Thursday, the highly contagious variant now it footfall in 38 countries i.e, the count has increased to eight countries in 48 hours. However, Maria van Kherkov, technical head of the WHO, confirmed that no casualties are reported so far.
Two cases of Omicron variant were reported from Karnataka on Thursday after which a wave of panic, fear, and concern was felt across states. Meanwhile, India reported 8,603 new cases of Covid-19 infections on Saturday. The tally of Coronavirus cases rose to 3,46,24,360, but active cases declined to 99,974, as per the data updated by the Union Health Ministry.
