AICC member Bakka Judson said that Union Tourism Minister Kishan Reddy has failed to take action on tourism. He spoke to the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday. He criticized that Telangana state is corrupt everywhere. He criticized the central and state governments for cheating the unemployed. The National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) is a 50-50 joint venture between the Ministry of Tourism, the Government of India, and the State Government.
The then Tourism Secretary Jayesh Ranjan on 02-07-2010 leased 3 acres of land to Saptarishi Hotels (the single bidder) for the construction of a 4-star hotel without the PPP method. It was announced that the Government of India has given permission from the Ministry of Tourism. Bakka Judson said that the current value of 3 acres of land in Gachibowli is Rs.200 crores. It is against the guidelines of the Central Vigilance Commission to consider a single bid for tenders. The then Tourism Secretary Jayesh Ranjan ignored the fact and awarded the PPP project to Saptarishi Hotels to Rajasthan-based promoter LN Sharma who had no experience in the hotel industry.
LN Sharma stated that he has tied up with Hilton Hotels International and will invest Rs. 75 crores. Instead of investing the money, Saptarishi Hotels took a loan of Rs 159 crore by mortgaging 3 acres of land with Punjab National Bank. Today there are only pillars and roofs on the site. Ultimately the promoters of Saptarishi Hotels failed to repay the loan installments to the Punjab National Bank. Bakka Judson said that the project has become a non-performing asset.
Bakka Judson questioned why Kishan Reddy failed to lodge a complaint with the CBI about the state government’s illegal lease of 3 acres of land belonging to his ministry. “What were officials doing in NITHM Governing Council meetings when Tourism Secretary Jayesh Ranjan illegally leased Union Tourism Ministry land to a PPP project?” Bakka Judson asked. Union Minister Kishan Reddy said that it was because BJP and ruling TRS party leaders had joined hands to illegally grab land worth Rs.200 crores in Gachibowli.
He demanded Union Minister Kishan Reddy reveal the bills paid to hotels for informal meetings at Tourism Plaza Hotels. Kishan Reddy is in Hyderabad every weekend. Bakka Judson criticized him for not even visiting NITHM even after getting to know about the CBI case related to the Rs 159 crore scam on his ministry’s land. Judson mentioned that as per the reliable information received by him, the TRS leaders are trying to grab 26 acres of NITHM land worth more than Rs.1000 crores in Gachibowli.
AICC member Bakka Judson has demanded that if Union Minister Kishan Reddy is sincere and not in collusion with TRS party leaders, the state government should investigate the lease of 3 acres of land belonging to the Union Ministry of Tourism through which a loan of Rs 159 crores was taken without the approval of the Ministry. He also sought an explanation from Jayesh Ranjan, the then Tourism Secretary of the state, as to how 3 acres of land belonging to the Ministry of Tourism was leased to Saptarushi Hotels.
First, he asked NITHM, Gachibowli to inspect the land and realize the facts of his ministry institute. Judson said that if Kishan Reddy has written to the CBI and no action is taken against him for his complete failure as Union Tourism Minister to protect the central government land worth Rs 1000 crore in Gachibowli. He also said that he will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action. Non-aligned Congress Chairman Laxman Yadav and Youth Congress State Secretary Kandukuri Harishvardhan participated in this program.
