In a move which seems to be a tight-fitting reply to the board members of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry was rumoured to reject the chairmanship at the esteemed conglomerate. Days, after NCLAT ruled out in favour of Cyrus Mistry as executive chairman of Tata Group, the scion of Shapoorji Pallonji family, was said to take the decision to stay close to the board decisions but not directly. Reportedly, Mistry will likely appoint nominee directors to the board to enforce best corporate governance practices. However, it is only about five months that are left in his tenure as chairman of Tata Sons.
Tata Sons in 2012 elected Cyrus Mistry as the first Chairman who is not a Tata scion. However, Cyrus Mistry was ousted as chairman later in 2016 facing the allegations of poll funding for Odisha assembly elections in 2014. While Cyrus approached NCLAT seeking justice filing cases against Tata Sons and 20 others, a two-judge panel gave a ruling stating the dismissal of Cyrus Mistry was illegal.
