It looks like the TRS government is going through a rough patch in all senses. The sarpanches are waging an open war against the government. They are campaigning against the government for not releasing the funds despite them doing all the work in their villages after being promised the bills from the government side. Sarpanches are now drowning in debts after the government didn’t pay them the bills on time.
Several village sarpanches in the Illantakunta zone of Sirisilla district are voicing contempt with their resignations. To this end, a meeting was arranged at the MPDO office. They all felt that they were stuck in a debt trap by doing things as part of rural development.
The sarpanches said that they were not in a position to do what the Telangana government had said. They made it clear that they will not participate in the forthcoming rural development program organized by the government. They publicly threatened the government with doing mass resignations if the bills aren’t fulfilled as promised.
“Many of us are now working as the employees struggling under the authorities, no matter how hard we work, there are no funds coming from the government for the pending bills,” they lamented. The sarpanches mentioned that the government is not even able to pay the electricity bills of the Panchayats and that is why they also had to cut the power connections to their offices. The victims further said that they are enduring everything and doing what the government says, but there is no one who cares about the arrears.
