Right from the announcement, movie ‘Chhapaak’ and actress Deepika stood at the buzz with Meghana Gulzar’s most challenging script which read the story of an acid attack survivor. Hours before the release, the lead lady who also took up the role of producer shocked everyone with her appearance at JNU campus alongside the protesting students. Though the actress chose to remain tight-lipped all through her 10-minutes-long visit, it had created enough buzz, welcoming unexpected criticism as well. Followed by the fake ticket cancellations and calling for a Boycott of the movie, Deepika and ‘Chhapaak’ has been facing enough flare which ended up with plummeting ratings on different review platforms. Is this a planned move on a deliberate note?
With almost 5,000 users leaving ‘one-star’ rating, the film has been downvoted on IMDB, a popular movie rating platform now standing at a rating of 4.2. Most of the reviews from the people who gave a single star rating clearly indicated that the JNU visit affected their notion towards the movie. While a few opined that Deepika used feminism to promote adultery, others stated that her support for anti-Hindu forces will ruin her career. On the other hand, the movie based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi has been receiving good reviews from the critics for being such a page-turner in Bollywood.
