Hyderabad: It is a known fact that power distribution companies in Telangana are in losses. However, it is being alleged by the common public that the authorities have now turned over smart in compensating the incurred losses.
If the DISCOMs are in losses they usually increase the power tariff to compensate it. But this will politically damage the ruling TRS party’s reputation. Another way is to clear the debts with the companies which would empty the state’s treasury.
The public claim that the authorities came up with a masterplan to recover the losses from the general public without moving a penny from the state treasury. According to what is being said on twitter – Households which consume less than 100 units are charged Rs. 3.06 per unit and Rs. 6.09 per unit for the households which consume more. However, on average, a lower middle class or poor families consume less than 100 units.
Power department personnel have to count the units for 30 days but the bill is being accounted between 31st to 40th day. The delay of at least two days will result in a total of 106 units upon which the consumer has to pay Rs 6.90 per unit.
On the whole, the consumer’s slab rate is changing resulting in the additional burden of up to Rs. 300. Even the on-field personnel confessed that they are doing this with the pressures coming from AEs, DEs and SEs. Have to agree, that it is a clever move!
