Amidst the reports that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is in plans to launch a nationwide campaign to fight against Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed National Citizenship (NRC), the firebrand leader has written to all the opposition Chief Ministers seeking support for her battle against ruling BJP. In her letter, she emphasised the need to save the democracy and the soul of the country and ha called upon the leaders to join hands for a nationwide protest. Trinamool Congress sources revealed that Didi sent letters to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and few other influential leaders like MK Stalin.
“I write this letter to you with grave worries in my mind. The citizens of this country, irrespective of caste and creed are in the grip of fear and panic for the CAA and proposed nationwide NRC. This situation is very serious. We need to rise against this draconian regime in a united manner,” the letter reads. She then urged the leaders to help her create a peaceful and meaningful opposition. Mamata has been playing a crucial role voicing against the CAA and NRC leading hundreds of protests and rallies in West Bengal.
