In the wake of the callous rape and murder of the Hyderabadi vet Disha, Andhra Pradesh police force has come up with a remarkable step. The state is now paving paths to implement the Zero FIR policy in all the police stations across the state. Issuing a memo on the same, DGP Gautam Sawang stated that the distressed can file complaints at any station irrespective of the statutory police station. He also issued orders to all the stations across the state to make weekly schedule ready for Zero FIR orders.
In accordance with the ’Zero FIR’ system which has already been implemented in cities like New Delhi and Bombay, a complaint can be filed at any nearby station irrespective of the area of the incident. After an immediate inquiry, the case will be transferred to a police station in the area. In case the respective police officer refuses to register the FIR citing jurisdiction issues, they are ordered to be prosecuted according to IPC166.
Reacting to the security for women in the state, DGP Gautam Sawang advised the women in distress to dial 100, 112 and 181 toll-free numbers when in danger. He also stated that the department is working on the app to get all the services in one place which would be launched soon.
