By the time the nation came out of the shock of brutal rape and murder of Disha, Hyderabad police shooting down the four accused in an alleged encounter received divide response from across the country. While the citizen ushered the police with gratitude messages, various welfare associations including the National Commission for Women condemned the encounter. Upon the petitions filed by lawyers GS Mani and Pradeep Kumar Yadav seeking probe against the encounter, the Supreme Court ordered a judicial enquiry into the killing of four accused upon which a three-member committee arrived in Hyderabad on Monday.
The committee headed by retired Supreme Court Justice V.S. Sirpurkar consists of former CJ of Bombay high court Rekha and former CBI officer Karthikeyan. The constituted committee which set up a dedicated office at the Telangana High court premises started investigation from Monday. Supreme Court instructed the committee to submit a report within six months from the date of the hearing. The court also provided CRPF security to the committee during their stay in Hyderabad while all the expenses will be paid by the Telangana government.
