Pressing the ban on the liquor sale in the state, former minister and BJP senior leader DK Aruna on Thursday started her two-day hunger strike against the increased liquor sale in Telangana. Named as ‘Mahila Sankalpa Deeksha’, DK Aruna stated that her strike would be the stepping stone for the massive movement against the alleged unlimited liquor sale in the state. Accompanied by women activists and leader, DK Aruna who sat on the strike at Indira Park condemned the statements made by the Chief Minister that liquor consumption is a part of the state’s culture. “The liquor consumption has doubled in the last four years. Telangana ranked as the first state across the country earning revenue through the liquor business. It is pathetic that the Chief Minister himself is backing up the revenue through liquor sale,” she added. She lashed out on the government policies which made it easy for youth to buy alcohol from belt shop at every corner of the city. Aruna then took the Disha’s rape and murder which happed when the accused were under the influence of alcohol.
