Right from the day the White House confirmed the two-day visit of the U.S President Donald Trump, it has been in the national media over various controversies while half-kilometre brick wall to hide slums and spending a fortune for the visit were a few of them. In the wake of the supreme leader stating the Modi had assured him about 10-million crowd to the ‘Namasthe Trump’ event, anticipation levels rose to peaks while the arrangements in Ahmedabad are already in full swing.
Meanwhile, the main Opposition Congress took no qualms to lash out on the Gujarat government over the reports that the latter is spending Rs 120 crores for the event. This raised curtain for a new controversy over the real organisers behind the prestigious event. The organizers of the event is neither the Gujarat government, nor the centre, but a private entity-Donald Trump Nagrik Abhinandan Samiti. While the state government chose to play a mum card, the organiser’s name was revealed by Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar in a recent press meet.
Though the minister refused to do close further details, social media flooded with questions over the members and authenticity of the committee. Reportedly, the committee didn’t have an office as such or even didn’t have social media or any sort of digital presence. On the other hand, many of the officers involved in the preparations for the ‘Namaste Trump’ event confronted that they are unaware of this committee. This is now creating ripples in the national media. While some reports claim the Gujarat government has spent Rs 80-85 crore on Trump’s visit, others say it has cost the state exchequer Rs 120 crore.
