Hyderabad: Teenmaar Mallanna alias Naveen Kumar came out victorious over the Suryapet police who had allegedly obstructed his followers from campaigning for the Huzurnagar by-polls. On Wednesday, the Justice A Rajashekher Reddy of the Telangana high court has directed the Election Commission of India, state home secretary and the police officials of Suryapet district to not interfere in the election campaign of the renowned news anchor who stepped into active politics of late.
Mallanna moved the High Court after he and his cadre were obstructed by Mellacheruvu police who threatened to remove the T-shirts printed with Mallanna’s pictures printed on them. While the police stated that the petitioner has no permission to hold a meeting and campaign, the court opined that the petitioner has the right to campaign since it was a statutory right under the Constitution of India. In the upcoming Huzurnagar by-polls on October 21, Mallanna is locking horns with TRS’s Saidi Reddy and Congress’s Padmavathi Reddy.
