Major TRS, Congress, and BJP declaring their candidates and kicking off the campaigning with senior leaders and MLAs heated up the political fever in Dubbakka from the past few days. The ruling TRS which is basking in the victory in recent MLC elections has decided to field late Ramalinga Reddy’s wife, Sujatha Reddy, while the candidate was actively campaigning in Dubbaka.
Besides the confidence form various surveys which came in support for the sympathy voting, the ruling TRS party has reportedly resorted to a strategy for the bypolls which it has tried in the past too. The party has assigned campaigning to seven Ministers, MLAs and senior leaders by appointing them as in-charges.
As a part of which Finance Minister T Harish Rao is making multiple visits to the constituency and making sharp attacks on opponents. However, there is this one ‘By-Poll’ sentiment which has been haunting the TRS cadre in Dubbaka. It has been an unwritten rule that if an MLA dies and by-polls becomes inevitable, the party offers tickets to the kin of the late MLA.
However, various political analysis observed that this sentiment was proven a jinx in Telangana. For instance, Congress fielded MLA Krishnareddy’s kin after the untimely demise of the leader. Despite various analysis in favour of the family, Congress lost the elections for TRS. The same happened with Paleru Congress MLA Ramreddy Venkatreddy’s wife Sucharita Reddy, while she lost for TRS.
Going by this sentiment, sympathy votings failed to bring success for the leaders. This sentiment seems to be one of the concerns for TRS which is known to be a care-of-address for beliefs and sentiments. We have to wait and see if TRS can defy this jinx with the upcoming Dubbaka by-polls.
