Tension prevailed in Eluru on Saturday as over 20 children fell sick complaining vomiting, severe headache and epilepsy symptoms. While the officials remained clueless about the mystery illness, a 6-year-old girl was rushed to Vijayawada for a better treatment whose condition is now stable.
About 25 people, including children South & North Street, Ashok Nagar and Arundhatipet were rushed to the GGH till the evening after they fell unconscious after vomiting.
The health department and the West Godavari district administration on high alert while emergency medical services were being provided in the medical camps arranged in the streets.

“Water samples have been sent to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Vijayawada. A separate ward has been arranged for the patients in Government Headquarters Hospital,” stated District Medical and Health Officer Sunanda.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inquired about the Eluru incident over the phone. Extending condolences to the victims, CM Jagan lauded the performance of the medical team, district administration and officers at Eluru Government Hospital.
Meanwhile, the locals blamed the negligence of municipal corporation authorities in controlling pig menace and ‘contamination’ of water in the town while the pandemic is still taking a toll in the districts.
