National Green Tribunal(NGT) has imposed a heavy penalty to the tune of Rs 12o crores on the AP government for violating the environmental permits. It also imposed fines on three other projects built without environmental permits. A fine of Rs 24.56 crore was imposed on the Purushottapatnam project, Rs 73.6 crore on the Chintalapudi project, and Rs 24.90 crore on the Pattiseema project.
The National Green Tribunal directed the AP government to pay the fine within 3 months to the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board. NGT also instructed the government to constitute a panel with PCB and CPCB members to review the usage of funds.
The NGT has reported responding to a slew of complaints about the violations of environmental permits. Among the complainants were Pentapati Pulla Rao and Vatti Vasanthakumar.
