“Private hospitals seem to be more powerful than the state government,” this is the statement made by Telangana High Court on Thursday. Lashing out on the state government for ignoring the private hospitals that are snubbing the notices issued regarding the fee cap, High Court once again instructed the government to cancel the leasehold rights of the hospitals that go against the rules.
Hours after which, state health minister called an emergency meeting with a delegation of the Super Specialty Hospital Association on Thursday. While the state anticipated either for a string action or stern price cap policy, minister Etala Rajendra announced that private hospitals agreed to hand over 50% of ICU beds to the government to treat the patients at the government-prescribed tariffs.
Amidst the government’s claims no crunch in beds for critical corona patients, this decision has raised suspicion amongst the citizens. Further, overcharging and atrocities of the private hospitals are the main issues the common man is struggling with. In the wake of which, the state government ignoring thousands of complaints and urging the private hospital authorities to cooperate has come as a shock to many.
A few even took to social media raising concerns over the move. “More ICU beds allocated, more chances to loot the patients,” posted one netizen who claims to pay lakhs for his father corona treatment. Will the ’50 per cent ICU beds’ deal increase the chances for private hospitals to loot more..?
Whys isn’t government acting with an iron fist against the hospitals overcharging..? Isn’t it high time for the private hospitals to act with social responsibility..? social media flooded with the above questions while the state government seems to hear none.
