Pakistan has been one of the trusted ally to China which also happens to be the worst Corona affected nations with almost 2,500 confirmed cases. It was when the outbreak was on peaks, China has decided to provide Pakistan with top-quality testing kits, protective gear and portable ventilators to combat the spreading novel virus. However, the promise turned out to be a major failure which might probably snub the alliance into the threat.
Pakistan media and social media platforms went rife with pictures of the masks distributed by the Sindh provincial government. Apparently, the masks were sent by the Chinese government as a part of the promised consignment. Pakistan was promised N-95 masks but was supplied masks made of undergarment cloth material. While the Pakistani media sparked with criticism, a few of the government officials confronted that the masks were sent to the hospitals without a prior check.
Pakistan has opened border between the two countries for one day on March 27th to supply the medical supplies to fight coronavirus pandemic. According to the Governor, China had donated 200,000 ordinary face masks, 2,000 N-95 face masks, five ventilators, 2,000 testing kits and 2,000 medical protective clothes mainly used by doctors and paramedics. Amongst which the N-95 face masks turned to be a low-quality ones made out of the cloth which is usually used to make undergarments by China.
Meanwhile, the doctors in Pakistan called it a bad joke and demanded the government to return the masks. In no time, the news started trending on social media with number memes and trolls. While the Chinese government is yet to react on the rumours, Pakistani doctor medical community are fuming over the issue.
