It is a historic victory for the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of farmers’ unions that had been leading the agitation against the legislations since they were passed in September last year. While the country continued to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to repeal the contentious farm laws, are the local political parties trying to steal the credit..?
Coming to Telangana..the PM’s announcement came close on the heels of the ruling TRS party holding a dharna at Indira Park against the paddy procurement policy. As many senior political analysts called it a sheer coincidence, TRS ministers and MLAs’ social media flooded with posts claiming that PM’s decision was influenced by the dharna held in the state.
To note, BJP has been gradually emerging as an alternative party in Telangana which is evident with the results of recent by-polls. The dharna was also claimed to be a tactic to target the BJP government which has been discursively troubling TRS in the state.
