The government ended up stepping back on the issue of land pooling to the detriment of farmers. Protests, however, are raging as there is a possibility of this happening once again in the coming days. Locals in Arepalli, Warangal district, are protesting against the government to permanently cancel the land pooling GO 80A. The agitation continued under the auspices of the Farmer United Action Group on the National Highway.
Locals said it was a shame that the government was asleep despite the concerns of farmers in Arepalli, Paidipally, and Kothapet for the past 9 months. They warned the government to refrain from looting agricultural lands for real estate greed which are in fact capable of two or three crops a year. The locals further suggested that the government should reconsider and refrain from such anti-farmer policies as farmers have no other source of livelihood except agriculture.
Locals are incensed at the arrests of farmers who obstructed illegitimate surveys in their villages. The agriculturists say they are worried, making it clear that they are never going to give up the land as it is most precious to them. They are still demanding the immediate repeal of the Land Pooling GO 80 brought by the government.
The protest was attended by locals and farmers along with the former chairman of Single Window Buddha Srinivas, Raitu Bandhu Samithi convener Narsinghula Suri, and members of the Raitu Aikya Aacharana Samithi.
