In the Nizamabad district, the people and farmers of the flooded villages again protested to stop the works of Kaleshwaram packages 21 and 22. On Friday, the camp office was besieged to stop the work of the reservoir being constructed at Kondem pond in Manchippa village of Mopal mandal. According to the information that the people and farmers of 9 villages are coming to besiege the camp office on Thursday, the police have made heavy security. BJP leader Srinivas from Manchippa village was arrested by the police.
While moving to the station, the villagers stopped them. Public organizations also supported the farmers’ protest. In the past too, the authorities have stopped the project works due to public opposition. People have been furious over the recent resumption of work.
There are plans to construct the Kondem Cheruvu Reservoir of 1.5 TMC as part of Pranahita Chevulla Ambedkar Sujala Sravanti Package 21 and 22 to lift Godavari water in the joint states.
After the formation of a separate state, the people belonging to the flooded villages are opposing the re-design works under the name of Kaleshwaram Package 21 and 22 with a capacity of 3.5 TMC. Due to this redesign, 3 thandas, 1200 acres of agricultural land, 800 acres of forest land, and 12 thousand families will be rendered homeless.
