With festive season ahead and the Unlock relaxations has come as a fetching point for the theatres ramping up for reopening almost after seven months. After months of speculations, KCR-led Telangana government on Wednesday announced that all multiplexes and theatres will start premiering shows from December 11th.
While the central government has left the ultimate decision over re-opening theatres to the respective state governments, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has allowed the theatre owners who are willing to take the risk to run shows with 50 per cent occupancy and COVID norms. But the Telangana government chose to put the decision on hold in the wake of increasing cases.
However, the decision came as bittersweet news for the film industry and theatre owners with no new movies for the release. Seems like the first two weeks will mostly see reruns of pre-lockdown movies which would also help to reinstate consumer confidence and assuring them about safety.
It can be recalled that Tollywood Stars Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna met Telangana Chief Minister KCR at Pragathi Bhavan recently and has deliberated on re-opening the theatres in the states which has been providing a livelihood for lakhs of people.
