Tensions ran high in Korama, Bhamini mandal of Srikakulam district as the statue of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy was found vandalised. The statue which was unveiled on the 2nd of last month by DCCB Chairman Palavalasa Vikranth was spotted by the villagers lying on the ground removed from its pedestal with one of its hands broken.
While Palakonda MLA Kalavati along with YSRCP activists resorted to dharna condemning the attack on the statue, police reached the spot to bring situations under control. As a part of a preliminary investigation it was learnt the there were no communal or political disputes in the village over erecting the statue and was a unanimous decision.
Though no one registered an official complaint, villagers speculated it to be a deliberated attack by anti-social miscreants. However, police officials are looking into the CCTV footages for clues. This incident came in the wake of a series of attacks on temples in Andhra Pradesh while the state government and police department faced the wrath.
