The legal saga between the Jagan-led state government and APSEC Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar seems to be a never-ending tale while the latter knocked the High Court doors yet again on Wednesday.
In a recent petition filed against the state government, Ramesh Kumar who was recently reappointed as the State Election Commissioner alleged that government had stopped allocation of funds for the maintenance of the Election Commission.
Naming principal secretary (finance) and principal secretary (panchayat raj) as respondents in the petition, APSEC urged the High Court to intervene between them for the release of necessary funds for conducting local body elections. He further stated that it was illegal under Article 243 (k) of the Constitution to withhold funds from the Election Commission.
Hearing the petition, the High Court asked the election commission to file an affidavit giving detailed information on the problems faced by the election commission.
