While the Chinese government ramps up efforts to contain the respiratory-virus outbreak, the death toll continues to increase. According to the reports by Sunday, the death toll surpassed 300 with almost 11,791 confirmed cases in the wake of the World Health Organisation declaring the outbreak as a global emergency. Several countries, including India, scrambled to evacuate their nationals from the Chinese cities while countries like the U.S. imposed a ban on the foreign nationals who have visited China.
On the hand, the ground level reports from the local hospitals revealed shocking realities. Hours after the disturbing video from China which showed dead bodies lining the hallways of the Red Cross Hospital in Wuhan surpassed, reports from Chinese media revealed that the hospitals are being pressurised to hide the bare realities. While probed in, the families of the deceased confronted that they were asked to carry out a quick burial on low. Sources revealed that there was an unofficial ban on funerals which sparked speculations if the government is trying to hide the sour reality of increasing death toll.
According to the sources, the corpse of dead are being wrapped in a yellow body bag with tape and was instructed to deliver it to the funeral home directly. Within an hour the family ought to rush up the burial ceremony on a low key. Some of the families raised concerns over the reason behind the death with the lack of tests and crunch in diagnosis equipment. They stated that the doctors are directly admitting the patients with flu and fever without even carrying out tests for the mystery disease or not even when a CT scan showed shadows in her lungs. Hospitals in China are already running out of medical supplies, patient beds and coronavirus diagnostic test kits. Which made it evident that China’s healthcare system struggles to support a population of 1.4 billion. With a major health crisis, the strain is even more visible.
