G-20 meetings in Srinagar…Unprecedented security…!
In Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar, the G-20 working group meetings on tourism started on Monday. These meetings would be held for three days. The security has been beefed up given more than 60 foreign delegates are participating in these meetings. The Police were heavily deployed on the roads leading to the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center, the venue for the conference, along with the Dal Lake in Srinagar.

With the background of the conference, Paramilitary forces and NSD commandos were also deployed at the venue and surrounding areas. This is the first international event being conducted in Jammu and Kashmir after the Centre had abrogated Article 370 and removed the status of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the G-20 Chief Coordinator Harshavardhan Singha, the roads and walls were also decorated to welcome foreign dignitaries. He also stated that overall 118 meetings have been held across the country so far.
Harshavardhan said that there is an increase in the number of delegates attending this conference…when compared with the earlier two meetings. China has announced that they are abstaining from this conference as this conference is being conducted in a disputed area (Srinagar). However, the Indian Government has already made it clear that this is their territory and as a sovereign country, we have every right to hold international meetings here. Meanwhile, Turkey also announced that they are not going to participate in the G-20 meetings in Srinagar.
