While the nation is mourning the death of Gen Bipin Rawat and 11 others, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that Group Captain Varun Singh is the lone survivor of the Mi-17V5 chopper crash
that occurred on Wednesday in Tamil Nadu. Group Captain Varun Singh is being treated for severe burn injuries at the military hospital in Wellington.

Who is Captain Varun Singh?

He landed his Tejas fighter safely despite the mid-air emergency. He is the directing staff of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington.
The paternal village of Group Captain Singh is in eastern Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria and his father K P Singh retired from the Army as colonel. State Congress leader Akhilesh Pratap Singh is his uncle.
