Seems like Rs 10,000 immediate relief announced by Telangana government for the flood victims came as no ‘relief’ while residents in many flood-affected areas resorted to dharnas over discrepancies in flood relief distribution.
While residents of Shaikpet, Himathnagar, Jubilee Hills and Amberpet areas have claimed that they have not received any financial assistance so far, a volley of complaints against GHMC corporators was raised over people(unaffected) who are close to political leaders or public representatives are getting relief.
The locals also alleged that the distribution program in some areas was conducted in secrecy, and even reporters were not allowed anywhere near the place. Meanwhile, the corporators claimed that locals from the areas which remained untouched by the floods as well are thronging for the financial aid.
At some areas, the distribution programs were put on hold waiting for the leaders to reach the affected areas and click pictures while distributing the relief amount. BJP and Congress have alleged that the state government’s announcement is linked to the upcoming GHMC polls, terming it a way of “officially bribing” voters.
